Genetic Profiling

It’s true you can’t change your genes but you can affect their expression and influence with the right nutritional, exercise and lifestyle choices.

Jess is a qualified Fitgenes practitioner and can organise for you to have your testing to be done in clinic or in the comfort of your own home.  Fitgenes genetic testing shows your genetic predisposition for many health concerns including cardiovascular issues, high blood pressure, inflammation, detoxification, cholesterol and body fat regulation. Having this knowledge allows you to implement evidence based nutrition, lifestyle and supplements that will support your genes.

What’s involved?

A non-invasive sample is taken (from inside cheek). This will be done in clinic or we can arrange testing kit to be sent to you kit. Once the lab has completed your genetic profiling we are sent a comprehensive report in which we will get you back into the clinic to discuss.  From this information, we are able to create a personalised protocol tailored just for YOU.  This effectively eliminates a large amount of guesswork around what nutrition approach is best suited to you. It also saves you hundreds of dollars on supplements you may not need. Your genetic profile will determine which areas of your body need most assistance and we will supplement accordingly.

Genetic variants tested as part of your profile have been grouped according to their primary physiology effect they have on your body. These are:
  • Inflammation
  • Cell Defence
  • Vitamin D Receptors
  • Methylation and Homocysteine Metabolism
  • Cardiovascular Health
  • Fat Metabolism and Cholesterol Regulation

What is Nutrigenomics?

Nutrigenomics is a scientific discipline that studies the interaction between genes, diet and lifestyle choices. These choices can affect gene expression and can influence your health, wellbeing and performance. It’s true that you can’t change your inherited genes, however, you can compensate for their influence by choosing better nutritional matches for your genes. A good analogy is that, in essence, Nutrigenetics determines your body’s hardware and nutrigenomics determines the software i.e messages that are sent out.

In a nutshell, gene expression is modifiable; your genes are NOT your destiny, you can repair DNA damage and improve the functioning of your genes by making the right nutrition, exercise and lifestyle choices.
